Product Description
The IRT0421 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer with Laser is designed to accurately measure temperature from a distance. Simply pull the trigger and aim the pistol grip thermometer at an object using the laser indicator and the unit will provide an accurate temperature measurement in less than a second. The IRT0421 has an advanced highly accurate infrared sensor with a Distance to Spot Ratio of 12 to 1. It uses two AAA batteries instead of the 9-volt battery commonly found in less capable units. With its low voltage application-specific integrated circuit, battery life is increased by up to 60%.
This infrared thermometer provides accurate readings over a broad range of temperatures, from -76 to 932 degrees Fahrenheit (-60 to 500 degrees Celsius). It displays both the current temperature and maximum temperature on the bright backlit LCD display. Advanced ergonomic design and rugged construction for industrial environments, the IRT0421 comes with a nylon holster for easy storage and transportation. This non-contact infrared thermometer has been designed for a broad range of uses including automotive diagnostics, HVAC service, electrical troubleshooting, cooking and food preparation, and hobbies.

Works great. Very useful in determining home heat loss problems. I especially appreciate the large distance/diameter rating. Without it, it would be difficult to use on locations that are not easily accessible since target "circle" would be too large for accurate readings of actual "smallish" target. Must have for any do-it-yourself'er or home mechanic. I've used this to check surface temperatures on so many things now, I can't even list them all. My most recent was troubleshooting a motorcycle problem. I needed to see header temperatures where the standard "water spritz" was inadequate. I have had no experience with this type of product so can not compare it to other makes.
It looks good and comes with a holster which keeps it clean and protected when not in use though I wish it was a looser fit.
The only check on its accuracy I did was to measure the temp. on my outside thermometer and it was spot on,31 degrees. I have not figured a way to check higher temperatures for accuracy.
I found it difficult to open the battery compartment and there were no directions on how to do it. I finally inserted a knife blade in the upper portion and it now works easily, but would not budge originally. (read more customer review)
